the roots of creativity

we have never experienced the past. we have never experienced the future.

we have never experienced the realization of our hopes.

we have never experienced the realization of our fears.

it is clear that these words you are reading, and the words we use

to think and to speak are not what they seem to be. maybe they have

nothing whatsoever to do with what they seem to be. maybe there

is no such thing as a goal. maybe there is no such things as a direction.

maybe there is nothing else but this here, and if that was the case

then this here is not a thing, and you are not a person, because those

things would be words, and that person would be an idea, and we

now know, without knowing how, that we don't know how we

know things. but we do know how we do things. we do things

fearfully when we fear. we do things hopefully when we hope.

we do things creatively when we create. we do things profoundly

when we dig deep. not that digging will take us anywhere else.

there's no place else but this, nothing else but this, so as we speak

to these roots beyond site, it doesn't matter who we speak to and it doesn't

matter what we say. it matters tremendously how we see, how we

speak, how we do what we do.

so, how do you do what you do?

do you speak as though connected, deeply connected, to life

itself,

do you perform as though you were both the ancestor and the descendant,

indivisible,

do you sing your life as though it was a ritual song of praise, of fury, of woe, of

rapture,

do you dance your life as though this body was intelligence itself?

and when you read -

even now, how do you read this,

how do you read this,

how do you read this,

truly -

how?
